The Alamo Drafthouse has chosen its latest “Drafthouse Recomments” title, and it should come as no surprise that the honor falls to GREEN ROOM, a movie I myself cannot recommend enough and that won the audience award at Fantastic Fest last year. It’s an absolutely terrifying thriller that you should see with an audience.
But you didn’t come here to listen to me! Take it from Tim League:
And here are the finer details:
The Alamo Drafthouse is excited to announce A24’s brilliant new thriller GREEN ROOM as the latest Drafthouse Recommends title. Writer/director Jeremy Saulnier’s anticipated follow up to his breakout debut BLUE RUIN, the kinetic GREEN ROOM turns up the violence and volume with this tale of a punk rock band (Anton Yelchin, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole and Callum Turner) trapped inside a venue by violent skinheads after the band accidentally stumbles across the scene of a terrible crime. As the escape attempts commence, the body count grows higher, leaving audiences to wonder: who — if anybody — will escape the GREEN ROOM?
Anchored by powerful performances (including Sir Patrick Stewart playing against type as a deliciously nasty villain) and a near fatal dose of heart-pumping tension, GREEN ROOM will leave audiences white-knuckling their seats and adds an exciting new chapter to Saulnier’s body (count) of work.
Winner of the Audience Award at 2015’s Fantastic Fest, GREEN ROOM was also among Alamo CEO and Founder Tim League’s personal favorites of the fest.
“It’s so satisfying to see a filmmaker early in his or her career deliver two back-to-back solid and startlingly original films,” says League. “I loved BLUE RUIN – an early ‘Drafthouse Recommends’ title – and GREEN ROOM takes the tension and energy of that first feature and amplifies it in the best possible ways. It’s a breathless, brutal good time.”
